Walking in Two Worlds
A course on working with cultural difference designed specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities. Walking in Two Worlds recognises that successful service delivery, joint management/collaboration and reconciliation are only possible if Indigenous people have the skills and tools to understand other cultures and interact effectively. The length of the course will vary depending on the needs of the recipients.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will:
- Explore a common base for understanding cultural difference using a compare and contrast model
- Use practical examples to learn why cultures organise the world in particular ways and how different approaches can be managed
- Learn to apply self-reflection tools to gain a greater understanding of one’s own cultural perspective
- Develop skills and strategies to operate effectively in cross cultural contexts

- Networks and relationships
- Key values and concepts in mainstream Australian cultures (including wealth, productivity, time)

A comprehensive workshop handbook is provided including readings and references as well as exercises for both personal and group use.
