Debriefing

Debriefing is an essential part of cross cultural effectiveness and capacity development. It allows people to share experiences and reflect on these in order to identify and share lessons learnt and integrate more effectively back into their workplace, home and future roles and contexts.

CCC offers a general 1-2 day debrief workshop as well as specific debriefs for people who have left or been evacuated from conflict affected locations or communities.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will:

  1. Be able to articulate the ways in which their cross cultural experience has impacted on their lives.
  2. Explore and evaluate the effectiveness and impact of their work / assignment in contributing to development.
  3. Reflect on their own experience in light of current cross cultural effectiveness and capacity development theory and best practise.
  4. Provide feedback to program design, management, and evaluation in order to contribute to continuous learning and M&E processes (including predeparture preparation).
  5. Explore re-entry issues and identify strategies for cultural re-adjustment.
  6. Identify future goals and strategies for their individual capacity development and other roles as appropriate.

Materials

A comprehensive workshop handbook is provided including readings and references as well as exercises for both personal and group use. Information and ideas gathered from others as well as research from international experience is combined in an easy to read format.
