August 2011
The year has reached a half-way point and here at Cross Cultural Consultants we have been busy discovering new projects and reinventing old ones. This years annual professional development workshop was held on the tropical island of Bali, where our director, CEO and selected trainers took some time to look back on the stimulating and engaging work we have been doing all over Australia over the past few months. This event brought forward many new ideas for long term engagement and ongoing relationships with people, organisations and partners of Cross Cultural Consultants. It was a chance to reflect on opportunities for continuous improvement of the design and delivery of interactive programs that build relationships to sustain learning and development.
Phil's work in Groote Eyelandt has now been extended to include the GEEP2 expansion project with BECHTEL as the leading project managers. He will be delivering the cross cultural training component of the induction program for the next 52 weeks, which may be extended for 78 week. In other exciting and long-awaited news, the decade long sea cucumber, sea-ranching project at Bartalumba/Deception Bay has now reached the stage where all licences have been granted and we hope that the project will commence before the end of this year.
Jason is continuing with the Indigenous Leadership Effectiveness Group, which is a program developed by FaHCSIA to strengthen governments engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities and improve the cultural competence of government employees. It represents a bold new approach in Indigenous affairs with the aim of delivering better outcomes to remote Indigenous people and communities. Jason has also been working with the Department of Business and Employment to facilitate the cross cultural training component of inductions for new employees across all government departments.
Brian's involvement with ITEC has also been extended to March 2012. He currently mentors and tutors indigenous staff with the aim of them achieving a Certificate 4 through the Indigenous Employment Program. He has been enjoying his regular visits to Alice Springs, Katherine and other remote Top End locations.
One of our newest projects has seen us employ Northern Territory celebrity Alyson Mills to work in partnership with Youth Connections programs run by Mission Australia. She has been travelling to remote areas and working with young people encouraging creative outlets like liberation or therepudic theatre to help them explore their life options.
